Level 2 Painting

Course Description

Teacher in Charge: Mrs S. McNab.

Year 12 Painting

This course is centred around a student led investigation into a theme of their choice and specific art, painting conventions using appropriate traditional and contemporary artist models.

Students will begin by doing research in to their theme, specific subject matter and related artist models. They will create a body of work which will encompass both their two Internal Assessments and their External folio.

Course Overview

Term 1
Students will brainstorm their theme under teacher guidance. Students will then research their theme, specific subject matter and related artist models, gather and annotate resources for later use.
Students will make some observational drawings and paintings for the beginning of board one.
Students will investigate the first of 4 different Painting conventions using appropriate artist models and their own subject matter.

Term 2
Students will continue investigating the 4 different Painting conventions and then extend two conventions whilst completing enough works to fill the first of the two folio boards. Students will annotate their own work and their artist model exemplars to demonstrate their knowledge of conventions and how they plan to develop their ideas.

Term 3
Students will continue to combine and extend the conventions and ideas already begun on board one. Students will complete enough work to submit their two Internal assessments by mid term. Students will continue to work on the remaining pieces on their folio whilst researching more new artist models for idea extension. Students should have only one piece to complete by the end of term.

Term 4
Students will complete their folio by the end of week two, they will then have the opportunity to complete either the 2.5 or 3.5 Cultural standard if they choose.

Students should ideally have completed Level 1 Visual Arts but it is possible to complete the course without this prior knowledge if the student is willing to work had to develop their fundamental skills.
