Level 3 Painting
Course Description
Year 13 Painting
Students are expected to explore an individual theme of their choice whilst learning and displaying art making conventions through the study of appropriate artist models. Students are expected to show a high level of originality and technical expertise for Merit and Excellence grades. Students will complete two internal assessments which make up about half of the external 3x A1 board folio. The Internal assessments are worth 4 credits each and the External 14 credits.
Students need to be well organised, and to have the ability to meet deadlines.
Course Overview
Term 1
Students will brainstorm their theme under teacher guidance. Students will then research their theme, specific subject matter and related artist models, gather and annotate resources for later use.
Students will make some observational drawings and paintings for the beginning of board one.
Students will investigate the first of 4 different Painting conventions using appropriate artist models and their own subject matter.
Term 2
Students will continue investigating the 4 different Painting conventions and then extend two conventions whilst completing enough works to fill the first of the two folio boards. Students will annotate their own work and their artist model exemplars to demonstrate their knowledge of conventions and how they plan to develop their ideas.
Students will continue to combine and extend the conventions and ideas already begun on board one. Students will complete enough work to complete one and a half folio boards.
Term 3
Students will continue to work on the remaining pieces on their folio whilst researching more new artist models for idea extension. Students should have only one piece to complete by the end of term.
Term 4
Students will complete their External folio by the end of week 3.
